Upgrading to an American Life Home

Few things are more exciting than moving into a new home. Whether this is your first home, an upgrade to make room for a growing family, or scaling down for retirement, planning your new home design and decor can be a daunting task. We’ve put together a few tips to help keep the moving and designing process fun and exciting.

Photograph and Measure!

room_planningWe find it helpful to take a few photos of each room from different angles and jot down the measurements of each room during the inspection process. Doing so will help you to create a vision for each room and, more practically, decide if your new office is really large enough to your giant desk and all your supplies before moving in.

Decide on a Design Theme or Color Palette

While it is far from necessary to have the same style of furniture or the same color on every wall in each room, it does help to have a palette that keeps your home looking polished. American Life Homes’ interior designer will help you select a palette that works for you.

Take What You Like and Sell the Rest

Once you have a theme and color palette, take a long hard look at the furnishings and accessories that you already own. Decide what will fit with your design plans and what you need to either throw away or sell. This will spare you the expense of moving items that you will not use or need and keep your new home free of unwanted clutter. Check out our tips for a Perfect Yard Sale to help with this process.
